Dry Red Wine
Best enjoyed now – 2020
This is the last wine in our general listings made by our late co-founder, Richard Karlo. Nebbiolo, a grape most commonly found in Italy, is said to be more difficult than Pinot Noir yet, has an elegant power. It has the delicate weight of a Pinot but has much more acidity and tannin so it really packs a punch making it a great food wine for grilling. Be sure to enjoy it with food.
This wine is rare in a cool climate but is a great one to stump even the best-trained wine connoisseur. Its colour is dark cherry with a black ink tinge. On the nose, aromatics of violets and rose entice, followed by leather, wood smoke, tar, and the spiciness of anise. Mouth filling plum, black berries and tart raspberries with spicy notes of cardamon and pepper, make for a lingering heat which gives way to taunt acids and sturdy tannins. A distinctive wine which invites contemplation.
