Winemaker’s Notes
Following a cold and wet summer, we saw the vines grow a lot. A late October harvest allowed for phenolic ripeness, phenolic ripeness giving complexity and concentration. Fermented in small one tonne bins and punched down 3 to 4 times daily for maximum extraction and colour, this wine was on the skin for two weeks. This 2018 Estate Malbec was aged in a blend of American and French oak., the wine aged for 19 months before a gentle, minimal filter and hand-bottling.
Tasting Notes
This dry wine has charred strawberry, white pepper and violets on the nose with fresh cut cedar, toasted oak and smoke. The mouth feel has a balanced texture of plum, crunchy black cherry, blackberry with creamy vanilla, liquorice and tobacco. Soft, fine, grippy tannins lead to a smooth, long cocoa finish as it develops in the glass.
Pairing Notes
Our Malbec is a wine for rich, flavourful foods. Roasted, gamey and earthy dishes, porcini or portobello mushrooms, cumin and nutritional yeast all increase the umami factor and pair well. Try stuffed red peppers with wild rice, roasted mushrooms stuffed with cashews, olive oil, shallots, onions and potatoes, peppercorns, clove, allspice or cinnamon.
